Body Systems Simple DETOX
For the detoxification process to work properly, you should not starve yourself. You will instead simply give your organs a holiday from what you normally eat. You will cut out the naughty foods, add lots of good foods that cleanse your organs and facilitate the expulsion of toxins from your body and as a result you will brim with vitality and energy!
Why? - Whether you are looking for more energy, clearer skin, to lose a little bit of extra weight or working towards longevity, I suggest a detox at least twice a year!
When? - The change of season is a good time to take on a detox program. The main thing is that you clear your diary for a week of food based engagements and of anything that takes a lot of energy or is stressful.
Exercise, a gentle 30min walk, or any exercise you prefer, is essential to detox the body & stimulate your lymphatic system.
Preparation - The week before your DETOX start eliminating the following - 'NAUGHTY FOODS'.

Coffee & Tea, including Green Tea, & anything that contains caffeine

Alcohol & carbonated beverages

Salt
-
Refined Sugar
-
Dairy products; cheese, milk
-
White rice & pasta
-
Bread, baking & pastry, fried food
-
Red meat & Poultry
-
Eggs & Seafood
-
No smoky atmospheres
-
Medications (unless you have a pre-existing condition that requires it)
NB. Jumping straight into a detox can lead to severe headaches and cravings
SOUP - have the ingredients for a potassium broth that can be drunk at any time during the detox.
Put into a big pot; carrots, broccoli, kumara, potato,
onions, spinach, beans, cauliflower, parsley, silver beet, garlic, cabbage, bok choy etc - herbs & spices (or any combination of veg you like)
Cover with water & Simmer for 1 1/2 -2 hrs
Discard the solid material & drink the broth
This soup is full of essential vitamins and minerals to keep you going!
READY TO START??
DETOX DAYS 1, 2 & 3
Start each day with a large cup of boiled water with a squeeze of lemon
- this alkalises your system and is a great kick start for the kidney's & bowel.
Have three meals & two snacks consisting of the following;
Any vegetable (except potato)
Any fruit except grapefruit (it contains naringenin, which inhibits an important enzyme for detoxification)
Smoothies - make these with a selection of 3 or 4 fruits and water blended together (Add 2 tsp of BODYFOOD for that extra boost)
The best cleansing fruits are apples, pears, papayas, pineapples, cherries, peaches, plums, watermelon, apricots and berries.
At least 8 glasses of water, some of which can be non caffeinated herbal teas
Organic nuts - up to 1/2 a cup.
Two servings of brown rice, Quinoa or lentils
DETOX DAYS 4, 5 & 6
This is the juicing fast days.
Make fresh juices from Fruit as well as vegetables;
Eg:
- Apple, cucumber, ginger and carrot.
- Carrot, celery, apple & parsley
- Carrot, beetroot, apple & orange.
- Have fun and try your own mixes.
Dilute each juice 1/2 & 1/2 with filtered water – sip & enjoy!
In between your juice 'meals' have water, herbal teas & soup broth warmed.
DETOX DAY 7
This is the time to break the fast and reintroduce solid food.
Start with steamed vegetables, salads and soups – remember to eat only small amounts
DETOX DAYS 8, 9 & 10
Just take things slowly, eating plenty of fruits and vegetables and then start to reintroduce nuts & grains
as well as keeping up the water and herbal teas.
Daily Supplements to support your body during the detox,
Cleanse Plus - take 2 dropperfuls (2mls) in water in the morning and at night.
Body Food Photo nutrient - give your body an extra boast by added 2 tsp into your juice or smoothie.
Psyllium - a fibre supplement - necessary to keep bowels regular & help with internal cleansing.
Colon Hydrotherapy - recommended for those that want a complete detox.
