How to Improve your Bowels & help Constipation & Irritation
- Drink plenty of Water – 30mls per kg + a litre per every hour of exercise (this includes herbal teas) Lemon & water stimulates digestion & is a great alkalizer
- Change your diet adding more fruits & vegetables (4 cups a day -3 of Veg & 1of fruit) basic stuff but often overlooked!
- Eat smaller, more frequent meals and avoid overeating at one sitting (Wait 1/2hr after a main meal before eating again – by this time the stomach has told the brain that it is FULL!
- Add soaked lentils, Quinoa, chickpeas and beans into your diet to increase fibre
- Minimize (or eliminate) refined & processed foods especially refined starches & sugar
- Eat only Whole grains- as nature provides. Try Buckwheat, Quinoa, millet
- Eat foods which promote motions- cabbage, papaya, peas, sesame seeds, coconut, kumara, asparagus, figs, kiwifruit
- Eat foods that lubricate the intestines –beet,okra,kiwifruit, seaweed, spinach, sesame seed oil, honey, pear, prune, peach, apple, apricot, walnut, pine nut, almond, alfalfa sprouts, carrot & cauliflower
- Decrease intake of saturated (animal) fats and increase essential fatty acids (cold-water fish, nuts and seeds) 2 Tbls LSA = good option (3Linseed, 2sunflower & 1Almonds) 0r arctic cod liver oil – in sm amounts.
- Take herbs & foods that soothe the intestines – psyllium seed husk, flax seeds, slippery elm bark, fenugreek seeds, licorice root & marshmallow root. 1heaped tsp Flax meal in 250 apple juice also provides fibre & soothes the digestive tract
- Eat good bacteria enhancing foods- sauerkraut, miso, yogurt, kefir, quark, kombucha mushroom
- Aloe Vera take 10-30mls twice a day in a glass of water before meals
- Reduce your caffeine intake as caffeine may promote constipation by causing you to lose fluids. (Always drink at least one glass of water with every coffee)
- Allow time to go to the bathroom in the morning – even if this means getting up a little earlier than usual
- Exercise! If not daily, then at least 3 times per week for 30mins
- Use Colon Hydrotherapy as a regular preventative maintenance for good health
- Liver & bowel detox’s are also good to use in conjunction with Colon hydrotherapy
